This painting of Lord Vinayaka/Ganesha was my first exploration of trying to paint on a digital medium, in this case was MS Paint (earlier ver PC Paintbrush), that came with Microsoft Windows 3.2 operating system. As one can see this was long time back, and had few features to draw and paint compared to the myriad applications with features available today.
However, I do remember the process, all of this was done with a mouse, and there was a limit to how smooth of a curve one could draw, mainly depended on how well the artist could maneuver the mouse. As a coincidence, there is also a mouse I drew at the lower right of this image, according to mythology, the mouse is a companion and transport of Lord Vinayaka/Ganesha. From an artist’s perspective one can imagine how tricky that was, to capture a small mouse with the resolution allowed by the drag of a computer mouse. To add to further challenge, was trying to write the script of an invocation quote in Sanskrit which can be seen in the squiggles and wiggles therein.
However, I sure was elated when I was able to finish this art piece, at being to control the computer mouse as much as I could to capture the tiniest of features as best as I could. over the years, I tried more art on an IPAD, with a stylus, which has lot more control on the sketch and choice of color palette.
As with everything, the first successful outcome in exploring a new technique in art or any endeavor has special connotation ! The process is still vivid in my mind, and that’s the big part of an artist’s journey, the process and often surprising unfolding of the outcome.
